This book constitutes the revised selected papers of the collocated workshops of the 11th International Conference on Software Engineering and Formal Methods, SEFM 2013, held in Madrid, Spain, in September 2013. The conference hosted 5 workshops: The Second International Workshop on Behavioural Types (BEAT2). The aim was to pursue research topics in the use of behavioural type theory as the basis for new foundations, programming languages and software development methods for communication-intensive distributed systems. The Third Workshop on Formal Methods in the Development of Software (WS-FMDS). The aim was to bring together scientists and practitioners active in the area of formal methods and interested in exchanging their experiences in the industrial usage of these methods. The Workshop on a Formal Methods Body of Knowledge for Railway Control and Safety Systems (FM-RAIL-BOK). In many engineering-based application areas such as in the railway domain, formal methods have reached a level of maturity that already enables the compilation of a so-called body of knowledge. The Second International Symposium on Modelling and Knowledge Management for Sustainable Development (MoKMaSD). The aim was to bring together researchers and practitioner from academia, industry, government and non-government organisations to present research results and exchange experience, ideas and solutions for modelling and analysing complex systems. In particular in areas including economy, governance, health, biology, ecology, climate and poverty reduction. The 7th International Workshop on Foundations and Techniques for Open Source Software Certification (Open Cert). The aim was to bring together researchers from Academia and Industry interested in the quality assessment of OSS projects, as well as the metrics, procedures and tools used in OSS communities and for the measurement and assessment of OSS quality.

This volume contains the contributions presented at the International Workshop on Current Trends in Applied Formal Methods organized October 7-9, 1998, in Boppard, Germany. The main objective of the workshop was to draw a map of the key issues facing the practical application of formal methods in industry. This appears to be particularly timely with safety and security issues becoming a real obstacle to industrial software and hardware development. As a consequence, almost all major companies have now set up departments or groups to work with formal methods and many European countries face a severe labour shortage in this new field. Tony Hoare's prediction of the art of software (and hardware) development becoming a proper engineering science with its own body of tools and techniques is now becoming a reality. So the focus of this application oriented workshop was not so much on spe cial academic topics but rather on the many practical aspects of this emerging new technology: verification and validation, and tool support and integration into the software life-cycle. By evaluating the state of the art with respect to industrial applications a discussion emerged among scientists, practising engi neers, and members of regulatory and funding agencies about future needs and developments. This discussion lead to roadmaps with respect to the future of this field, to tool support, and potential application areas and promising market segments. The contributions of the participants from industry as well as from the respective national security bureaus were particularly valuable and highly appreciated.

This book provides a synthesis of the theory of programming. It aims to use mathematical theory of programming to provide a similar basis for specification, design and implementation of programs. It is wide ranging both in its subject matter and also in its approach and style. The first five chapters justify and introduce the main concepts and methods to be used within the text, relating the goal of unification to the achievements of other branches of science and mathematics. The remaining chapters introduce more advanced programming language features one by one. The main methods of programming are summarised and concluded in a manner suitable for those already familiar with programming semantics. Definitions are accompanied by examples and the theorems by meticulous proof.
